What to expect from Microsoft's 2022 Surface event - armstrongmasimed
Deutschmark Hachman / IDG
With specified weeks left before Windows 11's launch, Microsoft is deploying its cutting edge. The fellowship is foretold to launch an arsenal of new Grade-constructed devices during its September 22 event, including a importantly redesigned Surface Book 4, the Surface Pro 8, and even a next-propagation Surface Duo phone.
Initial reports say we should expect to see:
- A new Rise up tablet, the Shallow Pro 8
- An updated Surface Pro X, possibly referred to as only the Airfoil Pro X (2021)
- A somewhat updated Surface Die down 3
- A drastically updated Surface Al-Qur'an 4
- The new Surface Duo 2
- There have been rumors of a unaccustomed Surface Dock, also.
The Verge has reported early information about the new Earth's surface computer hardware, and Windows Medial published Surface inside information as well. Both sites stimulate a neat track register for Microsoft reporting. We'd look all of these new devices to glucinium powered by Windows 11, either at launch or immediately after. The timing of this consequence derriere't be cooccurring. Let's dig in!
Surface Script 4
Of the cardinal devices, clearly the most intriguing is the redesigned Surface Book 4, the successor to our well-reviewed Surface Book 3. Both The Verge and Windows Central report that Microsoft has (probably) uninhibited the detachable 2-in-1 construct that's defined the Surface Book to go steady, replacing it with a pluck-forward design reminiscent of the HP Elite group Paging.
The Elite Paging design allows that 2-in-1 to flip back into tablet mode, but too draw forward the blind into a cinema or presentation mode. Along the Folio, the tablet and base are technically come apart, though held together as a single unit with a faux-leather shell than encases both halves. It's not clear whether the Surface Book's tablet display will be detachable—though, inadequate a kickstand, that tablet has always had reduced utility. A new Show u Pen (probably separate) may also be included, the Wand reports.
The Verge besides claims that the Opencut Book 4 will support the Dynamic Freshen Grade feature that's a behind-the-scenes feature of Windows 11. DRR will take advantage of high-refresh-rate displays to enable better inking, and graphics as well. Windows Central believes that at least one model leave admit Nvidia's RTX graphics, one of our suggestions for improving the Surface lineup.
What C.P.U. will live inside the Surface Book 4? That's still a bit of a mystery. Intel's first "Alder Lake" crossbred processors testament glucinium officially discharged this fall, but only when in desktop form, so the Coat Book of account 4 may bu adopt the 11th-gen "Tiger Lake" processors used away the earlier Surface Pro 7+—or perhaps switch to AMD Ryzen? Windows Centered seems to think that there will alone be a pair of USB-C ports—possibly Thunderbolt, possibly not—along with the omnipresent Surface Connect port.
Surface Pro 8
A Surface In favour of 8 would be an intriguing improver, since Microsoft already shipped the Grade-constructed Pro 7+ for Commercial enterprise earlier this year, following 2020's Surface Pro 7. That tablet was already famous for its 11th-gen Intel Core processor inside, and with Alder Lake being desktop only at launch, the Surface Affirmative 8 may simply reprocess the 11th-gen Core serial publication. That's what unrivalled leaker on Chitter thinks, anyway: that the Surface Pro 8 will have a 13-inch display, duple Thunderbolt ports, and an 11th-gen Intel Core processor inside.
If Windows Central and the Wand are correct, the Surface Affirmative 8 may bring out Thunderbolt to the political platform, a first for Microsoft. Windows Central believes it Crataegus laevigata be slightly larger than previous devices, too. Thunderbolt would obviously be a step forward for Microsoft, though it begs the question of what happens when you want to bobtail the tablet. Is there an updated Airfoil Sorrel inbound? We're hearing that Microsoft whitethorn head in this direction—but we candidly aren't positive that there would be a faultfinding mass of Thunderbolt-powered Surfaces with just a single Surface Pro device.
Windows Central believes that the Surface Pro 8 English hawthorn admit Wake on Advance, a new characteristic for the Turn up card, too. Wake on Glide slope simply sounds like Microsoft's espousal of a feature already along the Dell Parallel 7320 Clastic and other Latitudes, which keeps the Windows Hello depth camera quiet scanning for bowel movement. When it detects it, Windows Hello triggers to log you in.
Surface Get ahead 3
It's fair to shout out the Surface A-okay line a niche: a fine cartesian product with what we'd take on to be a small market. The upgrades Here will either be a Core i3-10100Y or a Pentium Gold 6500Y inside, per reports. The latter is an Amber Lake chip, launched in the first quarter of 2021.
Anyone purchasing a Shallow Go is buying it for its damage and bundle footprint, however, patc simply hoping for performance that buns donjon up with the OS and apps. With that aforesaid, our Surface Go 2 review shows a amazing amount of fondness for the little tablet.
Surface Pro X
Likewise, don't bear too untold from a revamped Surface Pro X. Similar the Surface Go, reports suppose that these devices could upgrade the (Qualcomm-powered) chips inside, but not untold else. That's not necessarily a knock against the innovative Skin-deep Professional X, though we'd be real interested to see if the stamp battery life improves, and whether Microsoft preloads it with Windows 11 for Arm.
The Surface In favou X may also have what Windows Central dubs a new exteroception pen, which may offer some partake feedback while inking, in conjunction with the high-refresh-rank displays.
Surface Duo 2
The wild card will certainly be the successor to the Surface Dyad, a dual-screen ring that was titillated aside weeks of coy social media posts ahead of the launch, but didn't trade healthy. In split, that was collect to a subpar camera, want of NFC for touchless payments, and want of wireless charging. Windows Central reports that the first two aspects, at to the lowest degree, have been unchangeable.
The Surface Distich 2 is also expected to embark with a Snapdragon 888 processor at bottom, USB-C charging, and a slenderly big pair of 5.8-inch displays, possibly with a high refresh rate, according to Windows Halfway. It should come with Android 11, though A the Verge notes, Microsoft's ongoing support for the device will need to make water a bad bound forward for the Control surface Duo 2 to be successful. The primary was notoriously gauche.
We'll get wind what happens when Microsoft kicks off its Surface event on Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. Eastern / 8 am Pacific Ocean.
Updated at 10:18 PM with a alleged leak out of the Opencast Pro 8 via Twitter.
